2 more technological universities are being added to the cluster

In the current academic year 2023-24, 35 universities will be open for the admission test in the cluster system. The universities are Sunamganj University of Science and Technology and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University of Pirojpur in the science and technology group.

This decision was taken unanimously in a discussion meeting on cluster admission test in public universities. The meeting was held at the UGC building on Sunday (January 14).  

The meeting was chaired by Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir, In charge of UGC Chairman and was attended by the vice chancellors of 32 public universities of agriculture and science and technology clusters.  

In the meeting, UGC member Professor Dr. Md. Sajjad Hossain, Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher, Professor Dr. Hasina Khan, UGC Secretary Dr. Ferdous Zaman participated. The Vice-Chancellors of these universities were not called in this meeting as the date of the admission test for engineering group was announced.  

In the meeting, Professor Alamgir said, UGC does not want to impose any decision on the universities of the country. UGC is working to maintain the independence and identity of the university. Participating in cluster admission test will not detract from the character of the public university.  

He suggested the formation of a committee to determine the timing for the admission test of the cluster universities, to determine the financial transparency.  

Apart from this, he said that a committee would soon be formed to prepare a framework for conducting a single admission test for all universities under the National Testing Authority (NTA).

In the meeting, the vice-chancellors said that there is no obstacle in organizing the cluster admission test. The intention of the President, Prime Minister and Education Minister is to organize batch admission test. Cluster admission testing is a proven successful method. There is no way to get out of here thinking about students and parents.  

Apart from this, they said that if there is any crisis in the cluster admission test, we all have to solve it together. They urged the UGC to take effective initiatives to add the universities outside the cluster.
